Roller Screw Overload Protection

Roller Screw Overload Protection

Newest generation NCT3 tapping tool has overload protection built into the roller nut housing. What this does is, if the roller screw will not rotate any more there are shear bolts that will break and the springs behind the bolts will move the bolts out of the way. This allows the roller nut to back drive (rotate) instead; because of this the roller screw will not bend.

Here are some of the reasons that the roller screw will break.

  1. Tap seized in part and does not break
  2. Pre-hole is too small
  3. Tap side load is too much because of hole location
  4. Pitch insert seized due to lack grease

**Note this will not keep the roller screw from wearing out under normal use.
